Masahiko Sunami is a Media Artist, Live Sound Engineer, and Event Production Specialist based in Los Angeles.

Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Masahiko learned and trained in music as a Classical Clarinetist and Jazz Saxophonist. He has also trained in various world music traditions including North Indian Hindustani Sarod Music, Ghanaian Drumming, and Balinese Gamelan. This extensive music background, combined with his degree in Electrical Engineering and passion for computer technology gives him the unique ability to understand sound from both a technical and artistic perspective. He brings this experience and musical sensibility to every live event and project he works on. He has worked on over hundreds of live events with both established and emerging artists, bands, and professional speakers.

Masahiko began learning classical music and jazz when he was 5. While studying Electrical Engineering at Brown University, he discovered electronic music and realized he was more passionate about music than engineering. After getting a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Music from Brown, he decided to continue his studies at California Institute of the Arts, where he did a graduate program in Music Composition / New Media. At CalArts, he deepened his expertise and artistry in computer music, while expanding his repertoire through studying world music. He also started his career in concert production by managing the CalArts ROD Concert Hall.

Masahiko has worked in concert production since graduating from CalArts in 2003, as a professional live sound engineer and event technician. His years of experience and knowledge of all assets of event production – including lighting and video – has also enabled him to work as a technical director/production manager for concerts, events, and tours in recent years. As a native Japanese speaker, he has also worked on number of concerts and events for Japanese artists and corporate clients, including Johnny’s Entertainment, Yamaha, and Bandai Namco Entertainment, to name a few.

He has also worked as a web developer and has developed number of websites and custom WordPress themes, in addition to setting-up e-commerce and email marketing solutions for small business owners and entrepreneurs. This website was designed and created by himself, using a WordPress custom theme which he programmed from scratch.
